“Between Senses” – An Art and Design Auction for a Cause

When Orangenius was asked to be a part of “Between Senses”, an art auction benefiting the BF+DA and Mia Collective, we gladly accepted. Not only was it a great cause, with money going to emerging artists and the organizations that support them, but a great excuse to test our latest product, ArtBiddr.

ArtBiddr will be the auction platform extension of orangenius.com. Organizations can host auctions on our platform by simply using our site’s basic capabilities, like entering images and details about the art, in particular starting price and bidding increments. For live auction events, ArtBiddr can be accessed by phone and used to bid live at the event, or if the auction is simply an online auction lasting days or weeks, customers can easily bid from their computers during that time. We are looking to get it fully up and running in early 2017, but in the meantime were able to quickly develop a system to use for Between Senses.

So, right, back to “Between Senses”, the event at hand. A collaboration between Mia Collective Art and Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator (BF+DA), the two week long installation aims to take visitors on a sensory journey through carefully selected and curated works of art and design. The pieces donated by the artists and designers represent different physical senses, such as smell and touch, as well as emotions and memories, and the way these senses connect humankind.

The installation has been hosted at Gallery House, a unique, private gallery located in an historical Brooklyn Brownstone used to host fundraising and fine art exhibitions since December 1st. Gallery House provides a semester-long fellowship to selected Pratt students where they gain real-life experience in curating, planning, promoting, setting up and managing an exhibit of creative works. Each exhibit is set up to benefit a local charity selected by students of the program. This year’s fellowship recipients were Asa Maria Camnert, August Ou, and Aigerim Mukhambetova, and the organizations for which they are raising funds are MiA Collective Art and the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator (BF+DA)

MiA Collective Art is a collaborative media platform and project space for artists with inspiring minds. It seeks to empower artists by providing collaborative project opportunities to share the creative voices of our times and the idea that art should be accessible to everyone. MiA Collective Art specifically aims to have a positive impact on emerging artists and thinkers to inspire and motivate their art making.

The Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator (BF+DA) is a hub for ethical fashion and design that provides design entrepreneurs, creative technologists, and industry professionals with the resources they need to transform their ideas into successful, triple bottomline businesses. It represents a community of passionate creatives who are creating a positive impact through the objects that define our culture.
